We couldn’t be happier that we’re finally able to share the beauty of Lakeside with you. At last, we can let you stroll around the grounds, invite you to drink with us, dine with us and enjoy this special place alongside us.
COVID-safe outdoor seating
However, we’re very aware of the current COVID guidelines and the questions that you’ll have about the safety of eating out as a result. And while we’re delighted to be able to throw open the gates to our spacious outdoor seating area, we’re also determined to make Lakeside and its restaurants as COVID safe as we can.
This means that, alongside other restrictions, we’ll be adhering to the rule of six at all times, enforcing the wearing of masks for those not exempt and undertaking a strict cleaning regime throughout the day and into the evening.
Answering your COVID questions
We’ve covered off a few of the most frequently asked questions about the guidelines for eating out and the risk of visiting a restaurant and eating outdoors below. But if you have any questions at all, please contact us and we’ll be happy to talk through the arrangements we have in place to put your mind at rest.
What are the COVID rules for restaurants?
In venues that serve alcohol, customers must order while seated at a table and remain at that table to consume their food and drink. Customers can only enter premises to use the toilet or pay and must wear a mask while inside. Social distancing measures should still be observed and only six people, or two households, are permitted to sit together. Every customer aged over 16 must check in using the NHS app, or provide contact details to staff.
Is outdoor dining during COVID safe?
The likelihood of becoming infected drops dramatically outside. Fresh air disperses and dilutes the virus as well as helping to evaporate liquid droplets. The virus is also killed by ultraviolet light from the sun. There is no evidence that COVID can be transmitted by food.
Do you have any additional COVID measures in place to minimise the risk?
Additionally, we have a robust and regular programme of cleaning and sanitization in places. Tables and chairs on our terrace are well spaced to adhere to social distancing and we continue to uphold the 2 metres or 1 metre-plus rule both inside and out. Our staff wear masks at all times and we recommend that customers wear them whenever they are not at their table. Because of the difficulty in determining the number of households in any particular group, we will not seat any more than six people together.
Is it safe to eat at a restaurant during the pandemic?
There is no evidence that COVID can be transmitted by food. The virus is killed when food is cooked. Being outside is proven to significantly reduce the risk of infection.
What precautions should I take while visiting a restaurant?
It is important to continue to clean and sanitise your hands regularly. Keep your distance from others – modelling suggests that for every extra metre, up to 3 metres, the risk of catching Coronavirus halves. Wear your mask as much as possible. And it goes without saying that if you have COVID symptoms, or have been in contact with anyone who has, please don’t visit just yet.
Being able to welcome you to dine in our beautiful gardens is just the first part of this journey. We can’t wait to show you everything else we’ve done but for now, we’re happy to see the outside of Lakeside springing into life. Come and explore our lakeside pathways, enjoy a drink or a bite to eat at one of the picnic benches throughout the grounds or join other smiling faces on the outdoor terrace.
