The best restaurants generally combine a few elements. Yes, they offer a good menu, but they also provide excellent service, a great setting: the right atmosphere.
A place to eat can have a Michelin-starred chef in the kitchen, but we believe that if the waiting staff aren’t equally as polished it won’t be an enjoyable meal. Similarly, the food may be mouth-watering but if the dining area lacks style or charm we feel it’s never going to hum with the sparkle of conversation, the clinking of glasses.
Attention to detail
This is why, when we created the new Lakeside Bar & Restaurant, we took the time to make sure every detail was right. From finding an acclaimed chef to head up the menu development to ensuring the seating is comfortable enough to while away an afternoon with friends, no detail has been left unchecked.
The result is a stylish, elegant space. The main room lends itself perfectly to casual dining from brunch through to lunch and dinner, while the mezzanine floor above houses our fine dining restaurant with a regularly-changing tasting menu and wine pairing.
During the day high windows let sunlight stream in, bouncing off polished cutlery and exposed brick walls. In the evening, industrial-style lighting and flickering candles make for a warm and welcoming experience.
The attention to detail carries through to the carefully-curated menus too. Designed by head chef Paul Thacker, they combine his passion for world cuisine with plenty of popular favourites.
Pub classics including beer-battered fish and chips and chicken burger are elevated with the addition of homemade dressings and sides and sit alongside mouth-watering dishes such as salt cod with chorizo bean stew, and oxtail bonbon. For vegans and vegetarians, the range of options goes above and beyond salads and pasta to include crispy zucchini fritters with potato and chive gnocchi, and grilled miso and aubergine burger. Look out for our set menus and seasonal specials as well.
Families of all ages are more than welcome to come and share in the Lakeside experience. We have plenty of high chairs and our children’s menu pushes the boundaries (but not too much!) featuring a mix of kids’ favourites with some more adventurous tastes.
For a special occasion or an indulgent treat, afternoon tea is served daily both in the elegant dining room and outside on the sunny waterside terrace. Tuck into freshly baked scones with strawberries and Devonshire clotted cream, masala cream doughnuts, and black cherry and white chocolate macaroons, or take a twist on a classic with our sushi afternoon tea, featuring a selection of sushi rolls, matcha green tea sponge, and miso fudge cake.
Whether you’re having coffee and cake or a three-course celebration meal, our outdoor seating is available to all. Book to eat alfresco, or turn up and order from the Terrace Bar. Tables are well-spaced to take advantage of both the fresh air and the beautiful gardens, making it the perfect place to spend a few hours.
Close to Nottingham
Soaking up the sun beside the water might feel like a world away from city life, but Lakeside is less than six miles north of Nottingham city centre. Near to Arnold and Daybrook, the opening of Lakeside Bar and Restaurant brings top-quality dining to north Nottinghamshire and we can’t wait to welcome you.
